We thought that Austin would really enjoy a Memorial Day parade this year...mostly as a result of his fascination with anything large and mechanical. These items that you or I may overlook daily are a big deal to Austin: school buses, tractors, big rigs, dump trucks, bulldozers, excavators, fire engines...he loves them all (mostly due to a book that he is addicted to that has all of these machines and more strewn about the pages).
So...with the parade providing us with an opportunity for Austin to see a number of these vehicles in person, we couldn't stay home.
We were glad that we went...the first group of people to go through were the veterans and reserves, with the Army vehicles. As they went by and Austin's gaze remained fixed on their vehicles as they went by, we knew we made a good decision and that he wouldn't be frustrated by needing to stay in the stroller (which is always a concern, considering how active a boy he is and how he wants to be a part of everything).
Then, soon after the veterans passed, the local fire company was next...
...and Austin was once again very intent on not missing a thing.
All in all, the parade was a success (from a parental point of view) and served as the perfect start to what ended up being a very nice day for the entire family. Hopefully, the day was as enjoyable for you and your family as it was for ours.
