This weekend was a very fun one for Keith and Christine...they got an opportunity to go to dinner, have a few drinks, and attend a concert at the Landmark Theater in downtown Syracuse (not to be confused with Manhattan--or downtown Rochester for that matter). The festivities all took place in Armory Square...which is an area in Syracuse comprised of 10 corners and a hypotenuse, so the term "square" is utilized fairly loosely. The idea for the evening came from courtesy of Kevin and Peggy, who accompanied us on our evening out.
First, we went for dinner at the Empire Brewing Company...Kevin and Peggy had shepherds pie (I don't think either would necessarily get it again), Christine had barbecue ribs and Keith had turkey). The beers were pretty good...maybe better than the food. The whole time we were planning the weekend, we were planning on having drinks at the square prior to the concert, but not dinner. The plan had been to go Dinosaur Barbecue for dinner, but the wait was over 90 minutes, and we didn't have the time or desire to sit around for 90-120 minutes waiting for an opportunity to eat barbecue.
After dinner, we shot across the street to Blue Tusk for a beer before the concert. We were there for 35 minutes, and not one of us were able to finish our beers (shows you how old we are getting)...but in our defense, they served us 20 ounce glasses. The place was pretty cool, though, as their available beers on tap is extensive enough to warrant a menu. Keith had a Rogue Dead Guy, which was excellent. Christine sipped a Middle Age Apricot Ale.
After the drinks it was "off to the show", where we saw a (relatively) local blues legend, Joe Bonamassa.
He actually grew up in near by Utica. And to call him a legend, may be a stretch, being that he is the same age as Keith...but if you close your eyes and listen to his guitar...the term legend is not such a stretch after all. This guy can flat out play. He is one of those prodigy-types...you know...performing at clubs since he was 11, opening for BB King at 16 (I think)...the guy was ridiculously good. I have posted a couple of videos for those who may be interested in his sound:So...that was our evening. It proved to be very enjoyable for all of us all, and it was nice to get out for a few hours. Big thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for babysitting, thus making our evening possible.
