Keith started the weekend off by going fishing in Westchester County at the Muscoot Reservoir (where he keeps his jon boat). Not a lot of fish caught, but he enjoyed just getting out on the water (even if he did have to get off early due to the impending heat of the day). When he got home, he asked Christine to close up the apartment and turn on the AC...only to find out that neither AC unit was working properly.
How 2 AC units both stop working properly simultaneously is beyond us, but that is what happened. Regardless of how cold they were set, the compressors/condensors wouldn't kick on...most of the time. For some reason, the living room unit would turn on for only 3 minutes every 17 minutes (seriously, we were timing it), but never enough to drop the temperature below 79 degrees. Now don't get us wrong...79 was way, waaayyyy better than the 90+ degrees outdoors, so we were thankful for what we had. However, they weren't working properly so...unfortunately, we called Joanne and Larry (they own the condo) to come over and see what they thought.
Larry came over and couldn't get the unit to kick on either...so he took down the model info and went home to see if they could find replacements (he emailed me later in the evening, and we may be lucky enough to get new units as early as today (Sunday). If they are reading this...a big thank you for being so quick to remedy the situation...and on a weekend too!!
After Larry left, we went to the Hammerle's to celebrate David's 5th birthday. Unfortunately, we missed out on the beginning of the party while waiting for Austin to awake from his afternoon nap, and the party ended sooner than originally expected as a result of the heat. But...we were able to hang out a little bit after the party and visit with the family and play some games with the kids. The first video below is of Austin and Peter playing with blocks, before Austin becomes distracted with balloons.
What most readers will be most interested in is Austin's first ride in a swing yesterday afternoon. While Keith was playing bocce with David, Christine and Andrea took Austin to the swings and let him go for a ride....Christine took lots of pictures as well as a video.
Obviously, he seemed to enjoy himself. We will have to make sure that he has an opportunity to get in a swing more regularly as the summer moves forward.
We hope that all you readers from the NE are finding ways to stay cool during this, our first, heat wave.
